FYI
30 CW solid most of morning
30 RTTY marginal
40 CW weak
40 SSB nil
80 CW nil but W5OZI in Junction was hearing them
Antenna this morning is Butternut HF6V vertical with ground rod..no radials
I spent most of Tuesday salvaging pieces and parts from an old HF9V and an even
older HF6V. By dark I had probably what would qualify as a mostly complete HF6V
standing up in the garden tied to a ground rod. Next step is to move it out to
the radial farm and see how it plays. Will be going to Abilene tomorrow, so a
trip to the hardware store should give me enough parts to build another
HF6V...if all the caps are OK.
I have worked a few countries on 30 using 40/80 meter dipoles with a tuner but
this may be interesting having a real antenna for 30. A couple of years ago, I
took down my Big Bend Emergency Net 75 meter dipole and replaced it with a
dipole to 30 to work FT5XO but the 75 went back up after I worked them.
If any of you guys plan on trying to hear N8S while they are playing moonbounce,
50.205 is the new EME frequency. Have no idea who on the team came up with the
announced frequency of 50.375 but they will now be down in the regular EME
portion of the band.
