I had the urge to get up around 3:00 AM this morning. Some of you "seasoned
veterans" will understand. Since I was up and did not have anything else to
do,
I checked out the Ducie Island Cowboys. Found them hanging out at the 160
meter
corral making lots of noise and having so much fun that I just had to join
them.
One problem. No 160 meter antenna. I had one for a while years ago.Did you
know
that you can add a 160 meter kit to a 30 year old Butternut vertical and
make a
perfect dummy load with 5 KHz of bandwidth? The 160 meter coil is probably
under something out in the barn. At 3 AM, my brain cell(s) was not fully
operational. Fully awake, I would never have tried to load my Big Bend
Emergency
Net (3922) dipole on 160 meters. You and I both know that even with some
help
from MFJ, 80 meter dipoles will not work DX on 160. No one told VP6DX that
it
wouldn't work. 160 meter country # NINE in the log.
Think I will check Top Band for some more DX. I hear that there is an XE
that
hangs out on the band. One more country and I can apply for DXDC (DX Decade
Award).
